Chinese Pastries with Hoisin Chicken

Savory Chinese BBQ Pastries

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup boiling water
1/4 cup cold water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup Chinese BBQ pork, diced
1/4 cup onions, finely chopped
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Directions:

In a large bowl, mix the flour and boiling water until a rough dough forms. Gradually add the cold water while kneading until smooth. Let rest for 30 minutes.
Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent. Add BBQ pork, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Stir well.
Add the cornstarch mixture and cook until the filling thickens. Remove from heat and let cool.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Divide the dough into small balls and roll out each into a thin circle. Place a spoonful of filling in the center and fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape, sealing the edges.
Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with beaten egg.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
